The “Prophecies” of Nostradamus and other So-Called “Prophets”

Ray Comfort of Living Waters made a video called The Secrets of Nostradamus Exposed. It’s amazing how people still keep on clinging on to the prophecies of Nostradamus even after one failed prediction after the other. For example, ten years ago, there was the hype that the Rapture (or for some, the end of the world) would hit on December 21, 2012. I was thinking about how I once said, “If I go missing after December 21–then the Bible was wrong about that no man knows but the Father only.” Jesus already said that no man knows but the Father in Matthew 24. Yet, people still fall for the “prophecies” of Nostradamus.

One book I bought last 2012 was called Will the World End in 2012? The book was written because of the doomsday hype. For some, they were expecting the Rapture of the Church on December 21, 2012. The basis for the 2012 Doomsday Hoax or the 2013 Rapture Hoax was the Mayan Calendar. There was also the late Harold Camping who died in 2013–did the Mayan Calendar actually not end in December 21, 2012, but on December 15, 2013? I was thinking about the section which talked about Nostradamus. Nostradamus’ prophecies are vague at best. Yet, some people believe that he allegedly also predicted the rise of COVID-19.

So, let’s say that some of Nostradamus’ prophecies did come true. Let’s say that he really did predict COVID-19 or if he predicted disasters during his lifetime. However, here’s what the Bible says about false prophets when their predictions do sometimes come true:

“If a prophet or a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, and the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and hold fast to him. But that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has taught rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you out of the house of slavery, to make you leave the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.

I experienced it sometimes that a fortune teller, a Taoist temple interpreter, or a Feng Shui master gets a prediction correct. However, a real prophet is never wrong about prophecies. It’s because a real prophet doesn’t speak by his own words but what God wants them to speak. It’s very different from the diviners who can make mistakes. God sometimes allows them to be right because He is testing the people. God allowed certain false prophets (like Balaam) to make a right prediction. Just remember Balaam predicted the Messiah in Numbers 24:17.

There was also the hype called the Malachy Prophecies. These were done by a Roman Catholic mystic during the 1100s named Malachy of Irish descent. I remembered getting excited and nervous reading it. Allegedly, the late John Paul II is Labor Solari or Labor of the Sun because of his 25 year papacy. Later, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI was referred to as Glory Olivae or Glory of the Olive. Now, it’s said that Pope Francis is Peter II because Francis of Assisi’s full name (the name he chose for his papal name) was Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone. Also, Pope Francis is of Italian descent as his real name is Jorge Mario Bergoglio. Pope Francis also has a love for Italian food too. However, the election of Pope Francis didn’t trigger the Rapture at all! Though, I started to doubt the authenticity of the articles. I’m amazed that some end-times studies centered around this to determine the identity of either the Antichrist or the False Prophet. The Book of Revelation is already complete. We don’t need any more prophets today–any “prophet” today is just a false prophet. The true prophets are in Heaven (with all the redeemed) still waiting for God to set up both the Millennial Kingdom and the Eternal Kingdom.

A false prophet is like a broken clock. True, they can tell the truth at times. However, so can a swindler. A swindler will usually insert truths with their lies to sound convincing. A broken clock can tell the right time at times but it must be discarded. You need to get a functioning clock if you expect to get the right time.
