Lessons from David’s Anointing as the Next King of Israel

The time of Saul’s kingdom to crash was slowly coming to an end It was time to choose a new king in 1 Samuel 16. David was now going to be the next king and the curse of the 10th generation all the way back from Phares was removed. It would be time to talk about important lessons that people tend to forget.

Understanding David’s Anointing and the Tribe of Judah

It’s the end of November and Christmas comes to mind since tomorrow is December. The Christmas narrative is found in Matthew 1 which we can read the genealogy of Jesus from a legal perspective. Luke 3 provides Jesus’ narrative from a biological perspective. David was the ancestor to both Joseph (from Solomon) and to Mary (from Nathan). God the Father had perfectly aligned the choice for Jesus’ stepfather and an earthly mother in His humanity. But first, we must discuss David’s anointing as king which happens in 1 Samuel 16.

Saul’s True Nature Revealed and is Rejected by the LORD as King

Saul had a good impression (at first) with the people of Israel. Now, we will read in 1 Samuel 13-15 the two great battles that proved Saul was no man of God. First was the battle with the Philistines (13-14) and eventually the battle of Amalek (15) which cements the fate of ungodly Saul’s kingdom. Samuel was now going to see God’s purpose in making Saul the King of Israel. A nation of hardheaded people deserves to have a hardheaded ruler!

Saul’s Good First Impression That Didn’t Last

Saul, while written as a wicked king, made a good first impression. There is the impression that first impressions last. Not always. 1 Samuel 11-12 first gives us a good impression of Saul. Saul seems to appear to be a man of God. However, the Bible’s narrative after 1 Samuel 12 will reveal that Saul is no man of God but a man of Satan.

When God Anointed Wicked Saul as King to Punish a Disobedient Nation

Israel just keeps getting into bad chapter after the other, right? This is a result of the total depravity of man. Just because Abraham was a man of faith doesn’t mean that his descendants would be. If that were true then why isn’t it that all Jews and Arabs today (mostly the descendants of Ishmael and Esau) are mostly unsaved today? You can count the number of saved Jews and saved Arabs. The number of unbelieving Arabs and Jews is far more than the believing ones. Decades later, Israel would forget about the sad incident with Abimelech, son of Gideon and one of his concubines, and demand for a king that God would hand over to them as punishment.

The Bad Hermeneutics Behind Saying the COVID-19 Vaccine is the Mark of the Beast

Vaccination is indeed going on and you’ve got crazy anti-vaxxers spreading all sorts of stupid claims. One of them is the microchip in the vaccine rather than the microchip used in some containers for monitoring purposes. People need to heed the late J. Vernon McGee’s advice is that the recent technologies are not yet the fulfillment of prophecy while they show how prophecy can come to pass. Now, the claim that the COVID-19 vaccine is the mark of the Beast is a result of bad hermeneutics. Hermeneutics is the science of studying and interpreting Scriptures. A real lack of proper reading, interpretation, getting some proper context, and use of the right lexicons and concordances can result in really stupid interpretations. I mean, who can remember the claim that the late Saddam Hussein is the Beast and he’s now too dead to be the Beast?

The Incident with Dagon Proves the LORD God Yahweh Will Not Share His Worship with Other Gods

1 Samuel 5-6 covers the events after the fall of the children of Eli. Eli, while a good high priest, was a terrible father and was already disqualified from the pastorate of the Levitical priesthood for that reason. The Ark of the Covenant was taken and placed into the temple of Dagon at that time. I wonder if this was the same place Samson destroyed and got rebuilt decades later or an entirely different temple. Samson destroyed Dagon’s temple during his time to prove God won’t share his worship with idols. Now, the Ark of the Covenant, a holy object that none must touch or die, was placed in the Temple of Dagon. Would Yahweh share His worship with Dagon? Not a chance!
