Joash: The Good King Who Never Grew Up

Reformation Month is over and Christmas is just around the corner. It’s time to go back to regular Bible studies. It’s time to focus on the reign of Joash. It’s pretty exhausting (yet exciting) to go back and forth between Kings and Chronicles. So far, by God’s grace, I have been able to write about some of the wicked kings of Israel and up to King Ahaziah of Judah. I was able to finally write on the downfall of Ahab’s household, as a result of his wicked legacy. The last rotten egg in Ahab’s household was his daughter Athaliah. Athaliah was obviously another Jezebel. The wicked legacy of Ahab nearly destroyed the House of David. God gave providence to it. We can read the story of Joash in 2 Kings 11-12 and 2 Chronicles 23-24.

The “Fox’s Book of Martyrs” is a Must-Read for Studying Church History

Just because October is over doesn’t mean that the Reformation is over. October 31 was the beginning of it, not a one-day affair. Today is All Saints’ Day and it’s very easy to associate it with the Roman Catholic celebration. I suddenly realized that one of the old books I have is Fox’s Book of Martyrs written by John Fox who was born during the dawn of the Reformation (1517). I read the book while I was still a Fundamental Baptist. One of the Sunday school teachers in Cebu Bible Baptist Church, Engr. Edgar Sibonga, also talked about the book during one of his many Bible study sessions. If my memory serves me right, Pastor Armie F. Jesalva (who’s still alive in his early 90s) also mentioned the book. That was all before I got entrenched into Reformed Theology. I soon started reading Reformed Theology while remaining in the Fundamental Baptist, KJV Only.
