Elisha Purifies the Poisoned Stew

As the lesson on Elisha goes on, we have another interesting story. It was yet another famine in the Middle East. Either it was a supernatural sanction (like in the days of Elijah) or it was a natural occurrence. What we see is God’s power at work through Elisha during a famine. 2 Kings 4:38-44 talks about the sons of the prophets who gathered up ingredients. What happened next was that one of the ingredients was poisonous. Verse 40 has the sons of the prophets declaring there’s death in the stew. I assume some of the people who ate it got sick and died. In contrast to the previous story, nobody here was resurrected, unlike the Shunnamite’s son.
