God’s Covenant with Abraham, Israel, and the Believer

Genesis 12 is the very call of Abraham when he was still called Abram. Abram’s lineage led from righteous Shem down to his father Terah. Now, we was called to separate from unbelieving folks. The very line of Shem wasn’t born holy–it needed to be saved as well. Now, God is calling Abram out of the land he was in namely Mesopotamia. It was time to demonstrate God’s effectual calling to Abram and the promise which can be found in Genesis 12:3 which says the following:

I will bess those who bless you and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth will be blessed. (ESV)

Moving Forward or Still Stuck in the Past?

It’s 2021 and a lot of things happened last late 2019 and 2020 with the COVID-19 epidemic. Now, we’re going with the COVID-19 vaccination program. With that in mind, I was thinking about myself asking this question, “Am I moving forward or am I still stuck in the past?” I confess that I did a lot of foolish things before I got saved, when I was still newly saved, and I can’t count the number of times I did something foolish (such as getting into a useless argument all because of pride) and wish I never did them. However, that’s all crying over spilled milk. The Bible’s command, however, is different. The theme is moving forward.

Even Shem’s and Japheth’s Descendants Weren’t Exempt from Sin

It’s very easy to think of Ham as the weaker line since his four sons Cush, Mizraim (Egypt), Phut, and Canaan established an ungodly nation. Both Shem and Japheth were given the blessing while Canaan was cursed in Genesis 9:26-27. Shem is blessed, Japheth is blessed, and Ham is cursed. Does that mean all the descendants of these two are automatically saved? Not a chance as we would read the lineage of Shem and Japheth also had a considerable amount of bad eggs.

The Sons of God Controversy in Genesis 6

The sons of God term is used in Genesis 6. In the GNT translation, I’m amazed at how the term “heavenly beings” is used. There’s really some controversy to which the sons of God are in Genesis. I really want to really think about how this area can cause so much controversy. I decided to do a backtrack writing because there are various views about it. Some make sense while others are just downright ridiculous. There are even some good preachers who tend to make a slippage with this one.I would like to discuss some views about it.

Chick Publications’ Book “Babylon Religion” is Bad Theology

Years ago, I remembered reading the now out-of-print book by Ralph Woodrow called Babylon: Mystery Religion. The book in itself was a daring expose against Rome though it also had the stories of Nimrod, Semiramis, and Tammuz. It often quoted from the very unreliable anti-Catholic book The Two Babylons by Alexander Hislop. The Two Babylons is still sold at Chick Publications. Woodrow later withdrew his previous work and released The Babylonian Connection? which although wasn’t a defense of Catholicism–it was definitely showing the faulty logic of Hislop’s rather messy book. I decided to read The Two Babylons for myself and found it’s a book full of logical fallacies that it’s very hard to read. It’s not even academic at best!

The Tower of Babel and Multiple Languages

Can random evolution actually create properly organized languages or can only intelligent design do it? I find it so ironic that atheists want to reject the idea of intelligent design as to why everything exists while they have the tendency to brag about how intelligent they are. “Clearly nobody made any of this!” tends to be the answer. But can evolution actually account for all the orderly grammar and sentence structures of different languages? Have they ever considered the Tower of Babel (babble means confusion) or alternatively called the Tower of Babylon?

The Curse on Ham’s Family

The story of Genesis is always about beginnings. The Pre-Flood civilization came to an end and we can read that Noah’s descendants from Genesis 9-10. Did the killing of the Cainites really prevent any more sin? No, although Noah was a descendant of Seth (and all of us today, too) but we can see that the Adamic nature of sin is still there. Noah made a covenant but it would be very sad news that not all his descendants (and we’re also all Noah’s children) proved one thing–just because you descended from a saved man that you’re automatically saved. The sad story of Noah’s son Ham was the beginning of the decline yet again. One way or another, the weakest link will always appear in fallen man.
